Hi there, everyone.  I don’t want to be that guy doing this.  I stopped busking as soon as I began to charge for gigs way back in 2000.  If I’m honest it hurts my pride as a musician to be even putting this here, but here goes!  As you know, the way the record industry works now is that Spotify and YouTube give you all the music in the world for a small monthly subscription and musicians that created the music and played it get a few copper pennies at best … at least when I was busking some generous souls who could afford it occasionally threw a nugget (pound coin) in the hat.  The only money we get from recordings are those albums we sell on our own websites or on tour.  We also make money from playing live through ticket sales and bums on seats.
And so we come to the inevitable.  CoronaVirus.  Covid19.  All of the gigs have been cancelled.  Of course they’re cancelled, it would be reckless to even carry on holding gigs at the moment.  So far the UK government has made no provision for the self-employed at all so we face absolutely no income for the forseeable future.  It’s not just us, almost all businesses are screwed in some way and people in the gig-economy especailly so.
So please consider buying something from my little shop.  I am going to be working on extra content while in “self-isolation” so watch this space – and online streaming gigs are on the horizon.  In the meantime the donate button above is there if you have enjoyed my music over the years, especially if you stream my music through services like Spotify or YouTube … but please ONLY DO SO IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT … you can give me as much or as little as you like (well maybe not 1p as I think PayPal would charge me more than 1p to process it!) but you know what I mean.  It’s like those people who leave eggs out by the side of the road with a tub to put the money in, but on the internet and for streaming music.  Thank you very much for reading.   John

January 5  Julie Murphy and Fiddlebox:  And a review from Linda Norris, Pembrokeshire artist.

I went to a fantastic gig at Cuffern Manor this week, Julie Murphy and Ceri Owen Jones performed new pieces from their upcoming album, ably supported by Fiddlebox. Julie’s songs are tender and poignant and their collaboration embodies the best of traditional and contemporary work, poetry and music, and, amazingly, Ceri played a piece from the medieval ap Huw manuscript – one of the manuscript sources I have been consulting for my windows project…synchronicity at its best!…dreaming of a harp in the chapel..!
